Walking Grades

To help you choose the right walk for you, we grade each of our excursions according to distance, terrain, and overall physical effort. These are here to give you a clear idea of what to expect on the day, so you can book with confidence and pick a walk that feels right for your level of fitness and experience. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we can talk it through together.

Easy

Relaxed walks on good paths at an easy-going pace, with plenty of stops to take in the scenery. Distances are shorter and climbs are gentle, making these ideal if you’re new to walking or just want a lighter day outdoors.

Moderate

A step up in distance and elevation, but still walked at a steady, comfortable pace. You’ll need a reasonable level of fitness and be happy walking for a few hours, including some uphill sections and uneven ground.

Challenging

Longer days with more sustained climbs and varied terrain underfoot. These walks require good fitness and confidence walking for several hours, often with steady ascent and a full day in the hills.

Very Challenging

Big mountain or long-distance days with significant ascent, rougher terrain, and a sustained pace. These walks are physically demanding and best suited to experienced walkers with strong fitness and previous hillwalking experience.
