Experience the best of both worlds: sweeping fell-top panoramas and a magical woodland descent.
Our walk begins in the lush temperate rainforest of Aira Force, where we pass through a dramatic 65-foot gorge and its striking waterfall. From here, we ascend to Gowbarrow Fell, one of the 214 Wainwright summits, rewarded with breathtaking views over Ullswater and the surrounding iconic fells.
We finish with a gentle descent back through the enchanting woodland, completing a route rich in contrast and natural beauty.
Outline of the Day
- 9.30am: Meet at Aira Force National Trust car park. Introduction to the route and conditions.
- 10am – 2pm: Walk through Aira force temperate rain forest, walk to the summit of Gowbarrow Fell and admire the view of Ullswater, the second largest lake of the Lake District.
- 2pm: Debrief and then head home

Christel is a qualified Mountain Leader, Forest School Leader and Nordic Walking Instructor. She is also trained in outdoor First Aid and in Off-Site Safety Management with the Royal Geographical Society. She has a vast knowledge of mountain hiking worldwide. She speaks 3 languages: French, English and Spanish.
Do I need to be an experienced walker?
- Not at all. Each walk is graded, and your guide sets a comfortable pace with plenty of breaks. If you’re unsure, feel free to get in touch, we’re happy to advise.
- Yes! Many of our walks are suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness.
- No specialist gear is required, but good walking shoes/boots and weather-appropriate clothing are essential.
- Absolutely. Our guided walks and excursions are open to everyone, locals and visitors alike.
- We go ahead in most weather conditions (it’s all part of the adventure!), but routes may be adapted for safety. In extreme cases, we may reschedule or offer an alternative.
- Of course! Many people join solo. It’s a friendly, relaxed group atmosphere.

- By booking a walk with North View Adventure, you agree to the following:
- You take part at your own risk in an outdoor activity with natural hazards
- You are responsible for your own health, fitness, and safety
- Follow your guide’s instructions at all times
- Wear suitable clothing and footwear, and bring any medication
- Minimum age: 14 (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
- Some walks may have age restrictions (e.g., themed walks)
- A reasonable level of fitness is required
- One transfer per booking is allowed, requested in writing
