Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Djerba – Evening Welcome

Arrive in Djerba in the early evening and meet your hosts. After a short transfer to the hotel, settle in and enjoy a relaxed dinner. This first evening is a gentle introduction to Tunisia, allowing time to unwind after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight in Djerba.

Day 2: Matmata – Troglodyte Homes and Desert Beginnings

After breakfast, we leave Djerba and travel west to Matmata, a Berber village famous for its underground troglodyte homes. Many families still live in these traditional dwellings — a remarkable example of human adaptation to the desert climate.

Matmata is also known as a filming location for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and we pause to see one of the iconic sites, blending cinematic fantasy with real desert life. Lunch is enjoyed in a troglodyte home, offering an authentic taste of local culture.

In the afternoon, we cross an arid, hilly landscape where Berbers grow almonds and olives before reaching Douz. From here, 4×4 vehicles take us to our first desert camp, where the Berber team welcomes us. Dinner is shared around the campfire, and you can choose to sleep in a comfortable tent or under the stars.

Day 3: Walking in the White Desert – Finding the Desert Rhythm

Today we walk through the White Desert at a comfortable pace, covering 4–5 hours across undulating dunes and small oases. Pause to admire delicate roses des sables and search for Neolithic stone arrowheads, relics of people who have walked this land for thousands of years.

Life at camp unfolds naturally: help bake traditional galette bread in the sand, assist with camp tasks, or simply relax and enjoy the desert’s calm beauty. Evenings are unhurried, with dinner around the fire and stargazing under the vast night sky.

Day 4-5: New Year Celebrations in the Desert

We remain for two nights in the same desert camp to prepare for a truly memorable New Year celebration. These days mix gentle walking, desert exploration, and camp activities.

On the evening of 31st December, the desert comes alive with a traditional Berber feast. The celebration features mechoui, classic dishes like brik and tagine, and other local delicacies, prepared by our Berber hosts. A live Berber music band joins us, filling the camp with rhythms and songs as we welcome 2027 under the stars — an intimate, joyful, and unforgettable desert celebration.

The following morning, January 1st, is spent recovering at camp, enjoying the slow rhythm of the desert, playing game, playing in the dunes and sharing stories around the fire while watching the sunrise over the dunes.

Day 6: Walking Through the Dunes

After the celebrations, we continue walking through the White Desert. Seeing an everchanging landscape and absorbing the quiet magic of the Sahara.

Evenings are spent in camp, sharing meals, reflecting on the journey, and enjoying the peaceful desert night sky. Walking remains at a comfortable pace, allowing time to explore, take photographs, or simply enjoy the silence of the vast landscape.

Day 7: Final Walk & Return to Douz

After breakfast, we walk the final couple of hours of the trek before enjoying our last lunch in the desert. It’s a gentle closing to the walking days — reflective, unhurried, and often accompanied by a sense of quiet accomplishment.

In the afternoon, 4×4 vehicles take us back to Douz, where a refreshing shower feels particularly welcome. There’s time to explore local shops, browse spices and crafts, or simply enjoy being back in town. In the evening, we come together for a final shared dinner at Adel’s family home.

Day 8: Farewell – Return to Djerba

After breakfast, we leave Douz in our minibus for the journey back to Djerba. We stop en route for lunch and continue to the island.

If time allows, there’s a chance to explore the vibrant Djerba souk, a final opportunity to pick up souvenirs or simply enjoy the atmosphere. Afterwards, we transfer to the airport for your departure, carrying memories of a unique New Year adventure in the White Desert.
