Itinerary
Day 1: Stepping Into Another World
We will meet at Tozeur airport, the gateway to our desert adventure. After a quick transfer to the town centre, we’ll dive into the old Medina’s winding alleys. If time allows, we’ll visit the souk before heading to our desert camp. As we cross the vast Chott-El-Jerid, the Sahara’s largest salt pan, you’ll feel the modern world slipping away. Our first night in the desert will offer a simple meal under a breathtaking starry sky.
Day 2-6: Embracing the Desert’s Rhythm
For the next five days, we’ll let the desert set our pace. We’ll walk for about 4-6 hours each day on the soft white sand of the Grand Erg Oriental. It’s not a race – we’ll take time to breathe, to absorb the landscape around us. We’ll be treasure-hunting, looking for delicate “roses des sables”, nature’s desert sculptures. And if you are lucky, you might spot a stone arrowhead, a tiny piece of human history from thousands of years ago. We’ll pass by natural wells and little oases. As we walk, you’ll feel the stress of everyday life melt away, replaced by a deep sense of peace that only wide-open spaces can offer.
At night, you will be able to choose to either sleep in a tent or directly under the stars. There’s something incredibly grounding about falling asleep directly under the Milky Way. If you are curious, join in with camp life. Try your hand at making bread in the embers, or help gather wood for the fire. Our gentle camels will be with us too to keep us company and eagerly accept cereals and leftovers.
Day 7: From Solitude to Berber Hospitality
We’ll say goodbye to the white sands and head back to our B&B in Douz. After a well-earned shower, we’ll spend a few hours in the afternoon exploring local shops and having a mint tea in the main square.
In the evening, we’ll experience Berber hospitality by sharing a traditional Berber meal lovingly prepared by Adel’s sisters in their family home.
Day 8: Fond Farewells
On our final morning, after breakfast (in Douz or Tozeur depending on your flight), it’s time to say our goodbyes to our Berber friends. The memories of this unique adventure will remain with you long after you return home. Until we meet again, inshallah!
